Students cyber-chat with Deputy Prime Minister

Congratulations to the 896 schools across Australia who were successful in receiving funding for computers through round one of the National Secondary Computer Fund.

The successful schools were announced on Thursday 12 June.

Following the announcement, the Deputy Prime Minister met with three schools successful in Round One.

Students and their principals from Kolbe Catholic College (WA), Trinity Christian School (ACT) and Essendon East Keilor District College (VIC) spoke with the Deputy Prime Minister and to each other about how their new computers would help them in their studies.

The Deputy Prime Minister attended the host school Essendon East Keilor District College and spoke with the students from WA and the ACT via the internet.

‘It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to be able to talk to each other like we did today,’ said Essendon East Keilor District College Principal, Mr David Adamson.

‘Providing computers to schools and new fibre connections, give schools the opportunity to host online forums and foster partnerships along with ensuring a world class education is available for our students.’

Computers with live web connections and video capability gave students the opportunity to talk one-on-one with the Deputy Prime Minister. A live feed on a projector screen set up in classrooms streamed the conversation to classes.
